LES CHAISES...

Elles sont arrivées!

You could hear that big ol' truck coming from a mile away, but then it just sat at the bottom of the hill for the longest time. Next thing we knew, there were two guys hiking up our driveway, each carrying a red chair atop his head. Guess they had their doubts about making it up our twisty driveway in their truck, or being able to turn it around once they got there. Wise choice. Luckily, Hubby was able to meet them in our pickup before they got to the steepest part.

We'll be playing around with different arrangements for awhile, before we decide where the TV needs to end up, and rearrange everything on the wall.

Unfortunately, the pair of square leather storage ottomans we want to replace the glass coffee table with are out of stock, and won't be back until June.

John was downstairs framing pictures most of the evening, while I was upstairs arranging stuff and changing out sofa covers. I was back in the bedroom when he returned and I heard him holler "Who's house did I walk into? Must be some really fun, hip people living here!"

Gotta love 'im.

Did I mention how comfy they are?

HE LIKES IT!

I'm pretty sure little Calvin likes our new color-mad carpet...

although he did get a tad frustrated when he wasn't able to pick up any of the "balls".

I had a great time playing with him while Mom and Dad had a date night here in Wimberley. He was a happy, happy camper until about 8:45, when he abruptly hit that famous brick wall. Suddenly he was inconsolable, and nothing but his mommy and daddy and his own bed at home was going to appease him. We took turns pacing the floor with him until Hubby decided to see if he could find something on TV to distract him from his woes. The first thing that popped up was The Hobbit.

We never heard another peep out of him, and his eyes stayed glued to that screen until Mom and Dad showed up.

Looks like the Normal-to-Geek ratio in this family has tipped even further out of balance, and now stands at 1: 6 (sigh).

MORE CHANGES AFOOT

No. We're not moving. At least, not anytime soon. But the house, it is a-changin'!

Did this ever happen to you? Back in our younger days, when we had to go house-hunting every few years, we got where we could instantly spot a "geriatric" home from a mile away, and were quick to say "Nevermind!" to the realtor.  You know the type. The garden was probably beautiful once, but is now running amok from neglect. Paint is peeling and there's just a general air of neglect about the place. The first thing to greet you as you open the door is the stale, musty air. Then, BANG! You are whisked through a time warp to a previous era, for nothing in the house has been changed or updated for at least twenty or thirty years. I really don't want to be those people.

So, perhaps that had something to do with our experience on Tuesday, when we went out shopping for a storage ottoman to replace this glass-topped-sharp-cornered coffee table, which is not the least bit toddler-friendly...

and came home with NO ottoman, but with two red leather, mid-century modern accent chairs on their way to our house! Does this house look mid-century-minimalist to you?

Time For The Spring Sofa-Cover-Switch-Out
And, did it stop with the chairs? Nooooo, of course not! Next thing I knew, I'd ordered a polka-dot rug to replace the oriental. Yep, you heard me. Polka-Dot.

Things are about to get interesting, no?

TIT FOR TAT

It was an interesting day, our Saturday. Nothing usual about it. John was in charge of an organizational meeting that morning and I guess he was a little nervous, so he asked me to go along. I said "Sure! If you'll go to my meeting with me this afternoon."

His meeting was for the photo-adventures-group he was trying to form, where they'd meet up about once a month and go on a little day trip somewhere in the Hill Country to shoot photos and maybe have lunch somewhere fun.

I think he was a tad nervous because everyone who had responded so far was female, but he needn't have worried.  In no time at all they were tossing out ideas right and left, and Hubby had a great list of possible day-trips. A trip to tour the Spanish missions around San Antonio will be their first adventure, but it was this last item one woman tossed out that really put a twinkle in his eye.

I think it's going to be a fun group.

After lunch it was time to head over to Hays City Store for my event -- a meet-up of one of Wimberley's two Indivisible groups. I've never really been an activist, have voted for people from various parties (it wasn't until the Tea Party emerged that I got shoved further and further to the left), and get the heebie-jeebies at the thought of calling one of my representatives to voice my opinion or attending a town hall where everyone is screaming and no one is being heard. But writing down my thoughts on a postcard? That I could do. That I needed to do.  So I joined 30 or 35 others that day in filling out as many postcards as we could, to make sure that our representatives knew how we felt on whatever issues were most important to each one of us personally.

Some people made their own postcards, while others were downloaded for free from this very cool website.

We even had entertainment!

Purly Gates serenades us with her Affordable Healthcare ditty.
It was a really good day.

P.S. Still writing those postcards. It's good to be heard, once you finally find your voice.

IT'S OFFICIAL

First I smelled it, then I felt it.

First it was the scent of grape bubblegum wafting around, thanks to all the Texas Mountain Laurels bursting into bloom. But it was only mid-February. Could we really be done with winter already? Then yesterday it got up to 90 F. here in the Hill Country. So yeah, I guess it's official.

Spring has sprung!

BALD-HEADED COSMO BABY

Can you believe our little Calvin is already nine months old? In keeping with the family tradition of raising children who are open to new tastes and experiences, we took him to Madam Mam's this weekend for his very first Thai food!

Okay, it was only a bit of rice, and mostly he just played with it, but hey, it's a start! Aunty Reej and Uncle Nootie were there as well, all atwitter about upcoming travel plans.

Check this out. Our bald-headed baby finally has a curl!

You would not believe how hard it is to keep from smooching that little neck each time I pass it!

Speaking of bald-headed babies, I read something interesting about that this week. I thought it was just a familial thing, since most all the babies in our family were baldies for a good many months. Turns out it actually has more to do with hair color. Babies with really dark hair tend to be born with lots of it, while the fair-haired ones start out with peach fuzz.  Who knew?

KEEPING THE SPARK ALIVE

One of my favorite things about moving to a new town or country has always been the exploring -- going on little adventures in the area to scout out all that is unique about the area, and to discover our soon-to-be-favorite haunts. This "epic" trip to Fredericksburg (now funny, 'though not at the time) was one of our very first adventures upon moving here, and made me ever so grateful that Hubby's next car came with with GPS.

I thought that early-splorin'-bliss might go on and on here in the Hill Country -- and it did go on much longer than usual. But, alas, we eventually reverted to creatures of habit and routine. Our recent trip to Hye reminded me of what we have been missing, so I was pretty darn tickled when I saw Hubby lay this on the check-out counter at the bookstore the other day.

Not only will he and I be sharing more adventures, we'll also be on the lookout for fun places we can share with Little Goober some day. And, to top it all off, he is sending out word to local camera buffs that he'd like to organize some photography day trips. So, if you know anyone who might be interested, be sure and let us know!
