SPLORIN': FIRST THURSDAYS ON S. CONGRESS

I fell in love with street markets on our honeymoon, when John took me to several in Hong Kong and Singapore, on our way to live in Indonesia. The one they hold on S. Congress in Austin, on the first Thursday evening of each month, may not be quite as exotic as the one held on Bugis (pronounced boogey) Street in Singapore, where all the transvestites congregate, but it's still a heck of a lot of fun!

I love street markets too! What on earth is that plant with the fan-like flower? It's beautiful!

Linda: It was some exotic succulent, that looked like it belonged under the ocean, or in a fancy lady's dress shop - it looked like it had been beaded! I was soooooo tempted to buy it, but it was expensive, and most succulents aren't reliably cold hardy. But, oh my, the colors!

I'm with Linda and Becky on admiring that gorgeous succulent. Becky, may I email that pic to my mom who loves unusual cacti/succulents? I'd love to find one for her 80th bday!

M.E. - Sure you can! Can you grab it from the blog, or do you need me to send it to you in an email? That vendor is there on a regular basis I think, plus Lex saw her at the Pecan St. Festival, but I don't know if she'll have that particular plant when you find her. Worth a try though!
