Sooooo, top kill didn't work. Am I the only one who keeps flashing forward, wondering what future generations are going to have to say about us, and how we killed the planet?
I've had similar thoughts, but then I realized what we're doing is killing our civilization, not the planet. Nature is resilient and will recover in time, but complex societies are far more fragile.
I'm been reading such books as THE COLLAPSE OF COMPLEX SOCIETIES by Joseph Tainter and NEMESIS - THE LAST DAYS OF THE AMERICAN REPUBLIC by Chalmers Johnson to get a better idea of what the future of our civilization may be.
I keep getting the feeling that the BP oil spill will be a tipping point. But that may be in part because, as a resident of Texas not that far from the Gulf coast, I will be personally affected. Maybe I'm inflating the severity of the disaster because it's so close to home.
Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable. ~ Helen Keller

I pray we ARE inflating, but fear we are not.
