I'M IN LOVE! WITH THE DRISKILL HOTEL

A lovely room in a beautiful, historic hotel in downtown Austin, for no more than you would pay for a bland, nondescript hotel: $xxx.xx

A magnificent antique bar, a "well-poured" beer, and being evacuated three times by flashing fire alarms: $xx.xx

Dinner at The Roaring Fork - the perfect choice for both manly men and their wives: $xxx.xx

Nabbing a whole row of seats for the hilarious show at Esther's Follies, and the fun of introducing it to a few newbies: $xxx.xx

Afternoon teas and late-night hot cocoas, with whipped cream and dark chocolate shavings, sipped slowly in the ambiance of the lovely 1886 Cafe, right there in our hotel: $x.xx

Great friends and beloved children to share all of this with, and finally managing to surprise my wily husband, even a tiny bit, for once? Priceless!!!!!

What a treat for the birthday boy and everyone! I love the Driskill too. While you were there, we were on a grazing tour of Austin Asian places, including the Asia Market Cafe & Get Dim Sum. I'd like to get some more today. We need to plan an Austin day, Muses!

Awwwwww....I received much vicarious pleasure from the celebration list! It reminded me that the selective delights of Sixth Street are still to be had in any season (with the end-of-year holidays topping the list!) Did y'all take a carriage ride down Congress? Brrrrr!

Deb, that reminds me, you promised to take us to your favorite Dim Sum place. Still waiting! By the way, did you know that Roaring Forks is owned by the same guy as Z-Tejas?

ME - No, we didn't have time for the carriage ride. We really had to hoof it to get from dinner to the show on time. Loved it that we could walk from hotel to dinner to show and back. It was a wee bit chilly, but not too bad. At least the wind wasn't blowing!
