GO TEXAN!

Hey Texans! Did you realize today is GO TEXAN Restaurant Round Up day? That means it's your moral duty to go out to dinner tonight. Just go to www.GOTEXANRestaurantRoundUp.com to find a list of participating restaurants in your area. By dining at one that is offering special dishes prepared with local ingredients today, you are supporting local restaurants, Texas products and Texas food banks, all in one fell swoop. I myself just lunched on this outstanding Texas Sugar Pie Pumpkin Soup at our local jewel, The Leaning Pear. They also have a roasted pork tenderloin special today that comes with a local vegetable burgoo. And of course, as always, everything is seasoned with fresh herbs from the restaurant's own garden. So grab your family and tell 'em ya gotta go out tonight. Hill Country Hippie said so!

I should go home and tell the hubby we need to go out to eat because it's Texan Restaurant Round Up Day (giggle), except there isn't anywhere really good to eat here.

That Pumpkin Soup sounds delish, but explain "vegetable burgoo" to me???

I had to look that up myself. Apparently it's a Kentucky thing, with roots in the Irish or Mulligatawny stew. Traditionally, the idea was to make a spicy stew using whatever meats and vegetables where available and in good supply - often including things like squirrel and opossum. Glad the one today was vegetarian!
