If you were to stroll around my house and take note of the things I like to decorate with...
and to wear...
If you were to discover that I could (and sometimes do) eat some sort of Mexican food almost daily; and if I told you that I never, ever read my books more than once, except maybe for Barbara Kingsolver's The Lacuna, and Tony Cohan's On Mexican Time, which I have read three or four times; well then, you just might assume that I was a gal who was gaga over all things that even hinted at life in Mexico, and you'd be absolutely right! In which case, you might be surprised to learn that I have never actually been to Mexico. (Well, except for a couple of day trips to a border town when we lived in south Texas, and we all know those don't really count.) To tell you the truth, I can hardly believe it myself.
Perhaps, then, you are now better able to understand why I get so crazy-giddy each time I am hit with the thought that, in just a few days, these two little feet of mine will actually be walking on the cobbled streets of San Miguel de Allende! GAAAHH!!
So happy you're getting to go to Mexico. I'm a native Texan and only have been across the border from Brownsville to Matamoros and to Mexico City as a child with parents. San Miguel is magical, I've heard. Have fun!
