OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW

Well, the year is winding down. I can't believe I already got my first seed catalog in the mail! I'm still waiting to get something edible out of my fall garden, and here it is time to start planning the spring one?

January is going to be a crazy month for the Lane family, from the very first day (John's birthday) to the very last, when we hand over the keys to our Houston townhouse. So much to be done. So much to figure out. Walls to be patched and painted. Carpets and oven to be cleaned. Movers to be scheduled. What furniture to keep and where to put it? How to dispose of the rest? Usually January is a slow month, a time to rest and recoup from the holidays, and to make plans for the year ahead. But not this year. This year we've got to hit the ground running. I just hope little Lexie's birthday, mid-month, doesn't get lost in the shuffle!

Ah well, there're a couple of days of this year left yet and, you can bet your booties, I'm gonna savor every minute of 'em! There will be much reading, relaxing, and sipping of tea going on here.

Wow! You do have a lot coming up! But I like the idea of reading, relaxing and sipping tea (coffee for me) for the next few days! ENJOY!

To decide on furniture disposal, first decide on how much time and hassle you can afford.

Advertising on Craigslist involves taking pics, writing ads, fielding emails and setting up appointments.

Taking to furniture consignment shops involves your own loading and transportation.

Donation to Goodwill, Salvation Army, or The ARC of Texas/Houston is the simplest as they will come pick up and load. (tax deductible)

Yard sale involves tagging, advertising and is weather dependent.

Rental storage is a good idea if you set a deadline and stick to it (as to when all will be disposed of or used/moved.)

Generally storage just delays the inevitable decisions of sell or donate. Once pieces are out of sight for 30 days the emotional connections are dissolved. Especially if one wants to start a new year clutter-free! ;-)

Enjoy the peace of the next two days. All of your readers send you lots of energy and quiet determination for next month. Just keep steering for the distant shore of Feb 1. And remember, dear HCH, deep breaths.......

We have pretty much decided on getting rid of it in Houston, rather than hauling it all here to be dealt with. John says he'll have the movers haul all the leftovers down to the garage before they leave, we'll let our next-door neighbor take anything she wants, and then we'll call one of the charities to come pick up the rest. Works for me!

Whew! A great plan and another task to check off your list. Happy New Year's Eve Eve to all.
